Why am I ranting about this? I feel strongly about it. I'm genuinely
troubled by the conspiracy theory world view. In the Harry Potter
context, I don't want my kids to think this is how the world works. I
don't want other HP readers to think that, either.
JKR has many surprises for us, but she always plays fair and straight.
That's a big part of her genius.

My (Mela) reply: I am not a big conspiracy theorist either. I hate the idea that Sirius, while having some issues was truly a bad person. I think we have enough evidence to contradict that entirely. I do think Snape was not Mr. Innocent and probably deserved most of what he got. However, I just wanted to say you are leaving out my favorite type of betrayal theories: The non informed betrayal. The person that thinks theya re doing the right thing but ends up doing something terrible. That person is Molly Weasley. Suppose, she is asked to give information out, in exachange for the safety of her family and possibly Harry. Suppose, she for instance is only asked to give infor on Hermione (being a muggle born they may want her gone..for she is the worst kind of muggle born. A muggle born that is smarter than most other purebloods). It might be a stretch but we are given an awful lot of clues into Molly's personality. Her ability to believe with little proof (aka witch weekly
article about Hermione and Harry). Her semi-dislike of Hermione, it doesn't seem that she bonds with her as much as Harry. We know that their are times that she lets her fear get in the way of practicality. All of this does not mean that she will turn away but JKR has given us ample clues and I don't those clues are without meaning
