Jen: Harry doesn't have the same intense feelings for Lupin as he
does for Sirius, but then I think his love for Sirius was more of a
crush on, kind of a needy love for this man who symbolized both his
freedom (saving him from the Dursleys) and his past.

Lupin makes a point of *not* promising Harry more than he can
deliver. I think he didn't touch Harry during the POA scene when
Harry hears Lily because he doesn't want to 'get in too far' then
have to abandon Harry. Lupin knows what he has to offer, mainly
helping Harry improve his magical skills, and that's what he gives.

I do think at the very least, Lupin is the last close link to
Harry's parents (unless Peter comes around, very doubtful) and Harry
feels close to him for that reason.
