I especially like this because while carefully thought out and in no way
violating canon, it does not depend on Snape's being related to Harry,
Sirius, Dumbledore, Crookshanks, Norbert the dragon, Trevor the Toad ...
And the cockroaches fit in too. In a place like Knockturn Alley, they are
probably everywhere, all the time, and they may well represent Snape's
greatest fear (either literally, or signifying a return to his life before
he escaped the place). When he showered Harry with them, he was probably
throwing the worst thing he could think of at him that wasn't lethal.
