Yes, but let's not forget JKR's play with words, allusions and the 
like. In ancient cultures, mythology and writing, and even up until 
recent centuries, the veil is an analogy for death. The Greek 
word "Apocolypse" actually means "Beyond/behind the veil." To us, 
Apocolypse means the end of "our" world as we know it, and perhaps 
the start of another world. 

Also, why would Lupin tell Harry that Sirius was gone? He might have 
reassured him a bit, but it appears he knew that the veil = death and 
did not want to give Harry false hope. 

I am still wondering, though, how Lupin knew exactly what the veil 
was. Perhaps between the fall of Voldemort and his term as DADA 
teacher he worked in the department of mysteries, until the others 
found out his secret? I'm interested to find out more about our adult 
characters in that in-between decade.
