I've always held the opinion that Ron's wand could have been repaired, but Ron, much like Harry, was to independant, stubborn, and mule-headed to ask for help.
I think if he had asked McGonagall or Flitwick for help, they may have been able to do better than a big wad of Spellotape. As far as Hagrid's wand, we have a big difference, Hagrid's wand was snapped as part of a governmental decree, as a result of keeping a
dangerous creature in the castle. Ron's on the other hand, simply broke. <snip> Also, we know that Hagrid wand is in his umbrella (reasonable assumption), how do we know that it hasn't been repaired?

I agree the reparo seems to be used on "solid objects." But wands are magical constructs that I suspect require something *more* ("it seemed to be damaged beyond repair") than just physical reassembly. It's like the dish that contained strained murtlap essence. The bowl was easily repaired, but the murtlap juice could not be saved. This leaves me doubting if the reparo spell will restore the broken mirror in Harry's trunk to it's original (functioning) state. Hope I'm wrong there!
