an important point for JKR. Many of us have been in situations where
we've watched bullying and did nothing... I think because Lupin
didn't act as a child to stop such behaviour, he may well be more
inclined to act as an adult, to make up for his youth. Notice that
at one point in OotP it is Lupin that stops Sirius and Snape
fighting... my theory is that soon we will see Lupin rescue Snape,
and hopefully they can start to forget the past. What a chance for
Snape to begin to change as a character, if he befriends his
enemy...and they work together to help Harry
Potioncat:
I don't recall the scene where Lupin stops a fight. Is it in the
Shrieking Shack?
Miranda again:
no it's in OotP...don't have book (I know, for shame) so I can't tell you where...it's when Snape comes to Grimmauld Place at one point near the beginning...yeah...or maybe I'm going crazy...
Potioncat:
What I have noticed is that Lupin praises Snape several times in the
books when Snape is not around to hear it. Lupin seems to respect his
skills. It is clear that Snape doesn't trust him. (At least not in
PoA.)
I don't think Snape will change as a character, although it would be
good to see him grow. Or is that what you mean?
Miranda:
Yup, that's what I was getting at. I agree, it is doubtful Snape will do a total character overhaul and we'll seem him singing and dancing with his enemies in book seven (pictures Alan Rickman singing and dancing and giggles) But I could see him and Lupin putting the past behind him... and the Lupin encouraging Harry to do the same? I am a firm believer that Harry will live beyond the last book, and I hope that he is able to forgive and forget with Snape by the time he graduates.
