And I thought - you've already stated it perfectly:

Ron brings his special talent to the table.  

Was ever a boy so hungry and loving of food as Ron Weasley?  The food examples abound, 
but it's funnier if you just find them while reading - they are Ron's standard response.  

Many representative groupings of the trio have been suggested, but I still like John 
Granger's best: Harry is heart, Hermione is brain, and Ron is appetite, or belly.  All of 
those are meant symbolically - Harry is the moral compass, Hermione the rational one 
concerned with consequences, and Ron sometimes lets his appetites rule him.. etc.  The 
Trio works when these three are in balance.

Ron's also good at chess.  He's a pretty good friend.  He has a special talent for being 
wrong when he wants to be right, but right when he's only kidding.  He's funny.  And he 
has great taste in his secret crush.
