I think Ron is developing into the most well-rounded of the trio, in
wizarding abilities and as a young adult. Remember the scene in
PS/SS where Ron sees himself as both Head Boy and Quidditch Captain
in the Mirror of Erised? I know this scene is meant to show Ron's
desire to stand out amongst his brillient siblings, but what if this
vision turns out to be true? One could argue that Ron was made a
prefect because Dumbledore though Harry had enough to deal with, and
also that Ron made it onto the Gryffindor Quidditch team because he's
a Weasley. But these were the very things that ended up boosting his
self-confidence, and his path may take him to serious positions of
leadership. Even Hermione takes some of Ron's ideas seriously in
OotP!
I've said before that Ron is the Weasley sibling most like Arthur, an
unassuming wizard who is definitely respected amongst his peers. And
lastly, what about Ron's deep affection for animals?
