how he came into possession of Buckbeak? Rats, don't have my book
here now, but can't recall Hagrid mentioning Buckbeak's origins. I
think back on Kreacher injuring Buckbeak and wonder if this could
have a connection--Book 5 already. Something along the lines of
Kreacher trying to turn BB's loyalties from Sirius to the Death Eater
cause. <snip>

For some reason, I always thought the hippogriff calendar was a
reference to McNair, Buckbeak's intedned killer in POA. There was a
line in book 4, or 5 where LV asks McNair if he is ready to kill more
important things than magical creatures.... That is not verbatum but
close. Bode's killer was definitely a deatheater, IMHO.
