A couple of lines later we have:
" "You heard James?" said Lupin, in a strange voice."

This set me to wondering. I'd always assumed that James was killed
outside the house. Add the constant irritation that nobody has yet
discovered just how DD found out the sequence of events at GH.
It's often been assumed that Voldy had an accomplice who later
spilled the beans. No-one, so far as I know has considered the
possibility that there was someone else in the house when Voldy
arrived.

vmonte responds:
The possibility that someone else was in the house has surfaced
before. I also mentioned that Harry only hears voices during the
dementor attack, and that we may be incorrect to think that the male
voice heard is of James (most recently in post # 95444).

I think that you are right that someone else was there. Was
this "other" person also affected by Lily's spell? What if this
person was not only a DE but blood relation to Lily, how would the
spell affect them? Would it force them to protect Harry, against
their will? And how bitter would this person be if he had to watch
over Harry?
And you are right there is something "strange" about the way that
Lupin responds to Harry.
