Carolyn:
Harry remembers hears this man shouting *after* Voldemort got into
the house - ie after the Fidelius had been broken. If it was Lupin,
he perhaps could have followed Voldemort and Pettigrew, not knowing
that that was their destination that night, and then tried to
intervene when he realised what was happening, and after James gets
killed. Perhaps it was his role in the Order at that time to spy
continually on Pettigrew on Dumbledore's instructions? He perhaps
went after Pettigrew straightaway after Voldie was vapourised, before
Sirius turned up.

Alternatively, if he is ESE, he could have accompanied Voldemort &
Pettigrew, and then perhaps was suddenly overcome with remorse at
what he saw was happening. Perhaps he only wanted James dead, and not
Lily and Harry in that scenario. It would certainly have been a
reason for him to track Pettigrew down so fast after he spotted him
on the Marauder's Map - so fast, he forgot to take his potion.

I also wondered, on a recent re-reading, whether the high pitched
evil laughter that Harry often hears in this dream is necessarily
just Voldemort ? Maybe Bellatrix was there too..quite a party.
