I would like to suggest that if anyone mirrors Peter, it is Ron, not Neville. Peter sitting on the grass, taking delight in James' abilities, seems a lot more like the jealous Ron. Though Ron's relationship to Harry seems to be more of an equal friendship than Peter and James', Ron's relationship to his brothers is one in which he is constantly overshadowed and teased. While Ron looks up to Fred and George, his brothers largely ignore his accomplishments, and instead admire Harry's.
I strongly believe that if anyone can be fooled by Lord Voldemort, it will be Ron. I do believe that Ron is good at heart, and will ultimately redeem himself by sacrificing himself for his friends, but he could be easily tempted by the idea of having people look up to him. After all, lets not forget what he saw in the Mirror of Erised....
Neville, on the other hand, is completely different from Peter. He does not need the appreciation of others, or to bask in Harry's fame. I think people want to compare him to Peter because they see him as a weak wizard, but this has slowly been turning around through out the series, and I suspect in the next book we will find that he achieved O.W.L.s in both herbology and potions, allowing him to take the path to becoming a healer. By the end of OotP, Neville became one of the best members of the D.A. Neville does have a nervous personality, but he is in no way a coward. Though he has far less confidence in his own abilities than Harry, he is perfectly willing to risk his life to fight the people who drove his parents insane.
Jessica, who sees bad things in Ron's future...
