Meredith: "Many people, including me, believe the marauders and the
trio-and- friends share many similarities, and that Harry and his
friends parallel Harry's parents and their friends. IMO, Harry=James
(obviously), Ron=Sirius (loyal, adventurous best friend),
Hermione=Lupin (academic, follows rules more often), Draco=Snape
(Slytherin nemesis of the hero), Ginny=Lily (this, of course, is up
for speculation and all I'm really going on is the red hair/green
eyes, and the possibility of a H/G ship). Where does that leave
Neville? Why, he's Wormtail, of course!"

This notion would have been more colorable prior to the end of OOP,
when Neville, once the outer-orbit second class follower to the Trio,
became a true Gryffindor hero in his own right, who will stand with
Voldemort's most implacable enemies. IOW, Voldemort will marry Sybil
Trelawney and help her teach Divination before Neville turns evil.

Neville was ready to give up his life and suffer excruciation rather
than give in to Voldemort. He fought with great bravery, all the
braver because his skills aren't as great as his comrades'. He was
ready to, and nearly did, give up his life protecting others'. Neville
is the anti-Wormtail. Neville Longbottom has nuttin' to prove to anyone.

The Trio plus Nevile/Luna/Ginny and the DA's are the mirror image of
MWPP. There are parallels, as you pointed out, but also critical
differences. MWPP were never tested or fire-hardened as the Double
Trio has been. That's important, IMO. Although they have an enemy in
the school (Draco and most of Slytherin House) they never set out to
persecute him. There's no way to paint Draco as any kind of victim.
And they have a purpose, a high one, no less than saving the world.

Neville's wrong about one thing, though. He thinks his grandmother
will 'kill him' for getting his father's wand broken. She should be
very proud of him instead.

Jim Ferer, who would be very proud if Neville was his son.
