Del replies :

* Harry = James ? Nope. James was a jerk at Harry's age, going out
of his way to jinx Snape. Harry never does that, never goes after
Draco just for fun. Harry has morals and believes in right and
wrong, James apparently believed in force and fame. Harry respects
the girl he fancies, James didn't (asking her to go out with him in
order to stop bullying Snape, excuse me !?). Etc...

* Ron = Sirius ? Nope again. There was a sense of equality between
James and Sirius, that isn't truly there between Harry and Ron until
OoP. Neither James nor Sirius was the leader, and neither felt like
the other was the better of the two. On the contrary, it is very
obvious that Harry is the leader of the Trio, and Ron follows him,
and they've had issues of relative "worth" : they fell out in GoF
because Ron was sick of feeling like Harry was so much better than
him, and Harry had a stab of jealousy at the beginning of OoP when
Ron got the Prefect badge as he felt he deserved it more.
And of course James was the one who had the nice family who adopted
Sirius, while it's the complete reverse with Ron and Harry.

* Hermione = Lupin ?? Most definitely not !! Remember what Lupin
said (paraphrase) : "I got the Prefect badge because DD hoped I
could keep James and Sirius in check, but I failed." Hermione, on
the other hand, *does* use her Prefect authority to maintain peace
and order ("... because we're Prefects, Ron !"). It's obvious that
Lupin never truly tried to calm his friends down, even before he got
the badge, while Hermione has been bossing everyone around right
from the beginning and forcing them to respect the rules (when she
wasn't breaking them herself, of course ;-)

* Draco = Snape ? No pun intended, but Draco is a very pale
imitation of Snape then. Snape knew a lot of Dark Magic when he
arrived in school, Draco didn't. Snape stood his ground on his own,
Draco is never seen without his bodyguards. Snape associated with
older students, Draco has chosen abysmally dumb comrades. Snape
carried out his own avenging actions, Draco runs to his daddy or to
Snape to get Harry in trouble. Snape is fascinating, Draco is boring.

* Ginny = Lily ? You admit it yourself, not much ground for that
supposition. They both have red hair (but Ginny is described at
least once as having brown eyes, in CoS), and they are both quite
strong-willed, but that's it. And we have to remember that Lily
disliked James for 6 years before starting to like him in 7th year,
while Ginny liked Harry even before starting school and is
apparently getting less and less romantically interested in him.

* Neville = Wormtail ? Honestly... !! Peter was a *coward*, Neville
has shown courage straight from the beginning, he was even rewarded
for it in PS/SS. Peter was always looking for the protection of the
biggest bully around, Neville has never asked for any kind of help
from Harry (every time Harry did protect/help Neville, he did it of
his own accord, not because Neville asked him to). Peter betrayed
his friends to save his life, Neville was ready to give his own to
save Harry at the MoM (I mean, he did jump right in the middle of
the circle of DEs surrounding Harry !!). I know that Peter and
Neville look very similar, even McGonagall said that Peter reminded
her of Neville in PoA, but that doesn't mean that Neville = Peter,
no way.
