JimLaming questions:
I don't have books here with me but didn't Hermione intimate that she 
would have gone to the Yule Ball with Ron if he had woke up and asked 
her in time?  She seems to be biding her time for Ron to become aware 
of her and change his point of view about girls.

Suppose that Luna, who clearly sends Ron "signals", begins to open 
Ron to girls and the possibility that someone could desire a romantic 
relationship with him.  (This is a character development that we 
should be expecting.)  Will this spur Hermione to pursue Ron, who she 
has, IMHO, put her claim on?
