I don't completely agree that if Harry saw Lily killed that he 
would see the thestrals from the beginning.  It was my understanding 
that you were able to see them when you realized that you saw 
someone die.  Harry was only 1 when his parents were killed.  You 
just don't hold on to specific memories when you are that young.  
But I do agree that Lily was not holding Harry when Voldy did 
actually kill her.
