In an interview (sorry don't know which one), JKR was asked about
people coming to book signings dress in costumes. She said that lately
more and more people had been coming dressed as Draco.
Then she added that we are all becoming far too fond of Draco.
That implied to me that Draco was about to take a serious turn for the
worse.
In the past I have speculated on ways in which Draco could join the
good side, more to explain possible circumstances than as an actual
belief. But give this statement from JKR, it seems that Draco is
doomed to continue on an ever darker and more dangerous path. Now
days, I am predicting that at the end Voldemort will be vanquish but
Draco will take his place as the latest 'Dark Lord'.
Kathy:
The interview or chat was on June 26, 2003 at the Royal Albert Hall. Great
chat. I defiantly agree with you. Draco may be the next one in line to play
the part of the Dark Lord, heres why:
Prince of Asturias award for Concord, October 24, 2003
JKR says:
I wanted to depict the ambiguities of a society where bigotry, cruelty,
hypocrisy and corruption are rife, the better to show how truly heroic it
is, whatever your age, to fight a battle that can never be won
To fight a battle that can never be won indeed. Dumbledore vanquishes (nice
word) Grindewald and who should take his place but Voldemort. Harry will
vanquish Voldemort; to what avail to Harry we can't be sure. So, who is next
for the position? Draco would be a good candidate except for his coward type
behavior (although even a dark lord has their Achilles heal, thats why they
surround themselves with as many followers as they can acquire). But, even
if its not Draco then it is pretty much inevitable that someone will indeed
take his place. Im certain the evil will go on. You can vanquish the evil
person from the world but you cant protect the world from evil.
