Marianne:

Yes, that could throw the inheritance into a twist, unless there is 
also some rule that bastard children could not inherit. As far as 
Phineas is concerned, would he necessarily know Snape's parentage?  
Or, even if he knew, perhaps he wouldn't consider Snape to be a true 
member of the family as he was not born in wedlock to a member of the 
clan.
