Yes I agree, I don't see her having any control over who can play
Quiddich... and even on the off chance she did, I'm pretty sure it
will be a moot point in book six... I would like to ask, though,
while we are "some what" on the subject... What exactly did Umbridge
do before she came to hogwarts to teach? I recall her being at
Harry's Trial, but I don't recall it ever being mentioned in the book.
Geoff:
Possibly this bit of canon helps...
(Fudge speaking)
"Interrogators: Cornelius Oswald Fudge, Minister for Magic; Amelia
Susan Bones, Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement;
Dolores Jane Umbridge, Senior Undersecretary to the Minister; Court
Scribe, Percy Ignatius Weasley - "
(OOTP "The Hearing" p.127 UK edition)
She would appear to be a professional civil servant, one of those
faceless wonders who have worked their way up quietly behind the
scenes and who remain anonymous when something goes wrong.
The first reference to her on the same page is interesting...
'On Fudge's right was another witch but she was sitting so far back
on the bench that her face was in shadow.'
Symbolic?
