Siriusly Snapey Susan:
I'm lagging behind in reading posts but wanted to comment on this.  
I think this last is an excellent point. Crouch could possibly see 
which of his students showed an especial interest in [and maybe 
aptitude for?] the unforgivables.  If *we're* all consumed w/ who 
could be the good Slytherin(s), isn't it also possible that Voldy is 
interested in the potential bad Hufflepuffs, Ravenclaws & 
Gryffindors?
