Good question. 

I think he thought nobody would think of looking for it in a girl's bathroom.
I mean, if you're going to hide something you hide it out in the open. Where 
people can walk by it for years and not even think of it being there. Smart 
if
you ask me.

As for Ginny, it turns out (cough) she and the rest of the Weasley's are 
related
to the Malfoys, Lestrange and Blacks. All who with the exception of Sirius 
and Ron's family were in Slytherin. Could it be that they were the only "good" 
pure-
bloods? I think not. Though from what I've read Harry's dad was a bit of an
ass at times until he got his act together. I also have a theory that Snape 
may 
be Lily's brother or half-brother because he reminds me an awful lot of Harry
at times and is watching out for him.
