Voldemort was making every effort to become immortal.  Vampires are 
virtually immortal.  Maybe it was Voldemort before the murders in 
Godric's Hollow who had become a vampire, along with whatever other 
methods he tried, to avoid death.  We know he was drinking unicorn 
blood at least until the end of GoF.

Could this relate to any other characters possibly being vampires?
