What do you mean by saying "the only one you should be rooting for"? 
You know, sometimes great literature takes a life of its own 
regardless of what author intended.

Author cannot force people which characters they should like or not.

If JKR wants us to like Harry more than other characters, well, it 
works pretty well with me, but what if other people do not want to 
pay any attention (OK, I concede that is impossible) to Harry's 
trials and care only about Ron, or Hermione, or Maraders, or.... even 
Snape? :o)

This is perfectly valid POV, you know.
