Well, to be fair, Harry did ride Buckbeak, but not nearly as far or 
long as he did in the movie (At the time [movie], I was thinking 
how 'legal' it was to release student(s) to fly where ever they 
wanted).  All Harry did was go once around the paddock, unless I 
am terribly mistaken.  In any case, they did leave the ground, but 
just for a short time.
