"And while Harry was sure he had never heard the name T. M. Riddle
before, it still seemed to mean something to him, almost as though
Riddle was a friend he'd had when he was very small, and had half-
forgotten. But this was absurd. He'd never had friends before
Hogwarts, Dudley had made sure of that."

Why is Harry's initial reaction to Tom Riddle's name so powerfully
positive? We have not yet been vouchsafed the slightest clue - was
Voldemort in contact with Harry somehow *before* attempting to murder
him? This seems to hint at the mysterious mental link between Harry
and Voldemort that becomes so prominent in OOP.
