DD time traveling as a method to keep track of everything that is going on is interesting, but probably not very practical.
One of the problems with time traveling is that the more you do it, the greater the risk of running into yourself somewhere. After a while it would be nearly impossible, even for someone of DD's talent and intelligence, to keep accurate track of every moment in time he would have had to return to in order to know what he knows.
DD has a number of other talents that lend themselves to explaning his universal knowledge of all events (i.e. Occulmency, possibly some talent in Divination (doubtful, but you never know), etc.).
