And just maybe the child holds the same sort of hatred for pureblood
wizards that Tom Riddle held for his muggle father...and possibly for
the same reason.  Perhaps Regulus thought better of his infatuation
with a muggle girl and washed his hands of the child.

Or: perhaps Regulus fell in love with a muggle girl and this was what
caused his change of heart about the Death Eaters, with fatal
consequences, leading again to a hatred of purebloods and especially
DEs on the part of his son.
