Totally believeable. Snape cannot be a double agent or a spy unless he has the trust of both parties, though I like to hope that he is secretly evil, serving LV devotedly and that his redeeming switch will occur in book 7.
 
By the by, does anyone know if Alan Rickman is planning on keeping the role throughout the film series? For this reason alone Snape should be a hundred times more evil than the Sheriff of Nottingham.
