My (Mela) Reply:  I love that part. One of things that makes me love Sirius more than ever before is that he is the perfect example of a character who defied tradition and stereotypes he grew up with and went about his own way.  I think that speaks volumes more about the character of Sirius Black than any silly pensieve  scene does.
