Jen: Now I'm wondering if 'marking as his equal' refers to whatever
Tom Riddle experienced at birth, i.e.:

mnich: Was Voldemort born evil?
JK Rowling replies -> I don't believe that anybody was born evil.
You will find out more about the circumstances of his birth in the
next book.

Did something happen to Tom Riddle at birth that interfered with his
attempt to kill Harry, rather than just the protection on Harry by
Lily, Dumbledore, etc.? JKR's reply says there was more to his birth
than reported so far (all reported by Tom and therefore possibly
inaccurate). Was in a magical occurence? Another insult from the
Riddle family?
