(snip) I wonder what direction the DA will take now that they do not have to operate in secret.

I think the DA Club will be one of the most important things to come out of OotP . . .There are no Slytherins in the DA Club because no Slytherins were offered the chance to participate. Had they been given a chance to choose, I think SOME of them would have chosen to join, and would have chosen of honest, genuine, and benign reasons.

The Slytherins-

I, however, believe that many Slytherins will join, some with a genuine interest and others with the intent of disrupting the club and harassing Harry. BUT, and this is a big but, Harry runs the club, what he says goes. So, undoubtedly, Draco and his immediate gang will join
and eventually be kicked out of misbehaving. . . I am one of the people who believe that not all Slytherins are bad. Being driven and ambitious is not a crime or a
sin, and within ethical boundaries, it is something to be admired . . . So when Draco and his 'hangers on' get kicked out of the DA Club, a few Slytherins will stay. Why? Because they are more interested in learning than kissing Draco's hairy... er... better make that stroking
Draco's ego.

Harry's DA group is already larger than he thought. Of course, Hermione deserves most of the credit for pulling this off in the first place. In the same way, I think current DA members will vouch for others (maybe even a few Slyths) and their motives for joining. Generally, why would the DA ever accept any member whose motives would be suspect? It's a life and death struggle against LV, and no one knows the consequences better than Harry's immediate circle of friends. You simply can't train your enemies in your tactics. So begins the process of identifying friend and foe. The house system itself has a polarizing effect in this regard. It's easy to identify the Slyths as "the enemy." The hard part, and what I think we'll see in the next book, is that it's tough to tell who the enemy are. I think we'll see turncoats in the other houses, and unlikely allies from Slyth.
