I think Snape has been working hand in glove with Dumbledore
all along--don't you think Dumbledore has ways of keeping tabs
on the staff room? Wonder whose portraits are in there?
In any case, Snape isn't trying to keep his wound a secret or he
would have chosen a more private place than the staff room,
which isn't even locked. Either he has some reason for not
wishing to be examined by Pomfrey (she'd recognize a vampire,
wouldn't she?), or he wishes to make it appear that he has.
Snape might have a grudge against Pomfrey going back to his
school days, since she helped Lupin maintain his disguise.
