The Potions Master, PS/SS UK paperback

Immediately following Professor Snape's superb introductory speech:-

'Potter!' said Snape suddenly. 'What would I get if I added powdered
root of
asphodel to an infusion of wormwood?' Then ...
'Let's try again. Potter, where would you look if I told you to find
me a bezoar?'

Snape goes on to explain 'For your information, Potter, asphodel and
wormwood
make a sleeping potion so powerful it is known as the Draught of
Living Death.
A bezoar is a stone taken from the stomach of a goat and it will save
you from most poisons.

We are always complaining that Harry asks too few questions. My
questions here, 'Why did Snape
ask these particular questions and especially why did he ask all of
them of Harry?'.
I think Snape may have been hoping for Harry to ask 'When would
anyone want to use a Draught of Living Death?' This would have given
Snape the chance to relate its use and his key role following the
events at Godric's Hollow. Of course the whole atmosphere of the
books would be different so Harry did not ask and he has remained
suspicious of Snape.

1) My theory in this post follows on from ideas that were forming
back around Post#91809 where Kneasy grouped several contributors
posts. My post #91818 then proposed the basis for this enlarged
theory. I found out later that Kneasy was about to post almost the
same idea, apologies publicly Kneasy, but reaction from the list soon
tailed off so I now offer a hopefully more researched theory.

There are many questions that we listees want answered. I, being
slow, am stuck at the beginning. I am
curious as to how the WW knew that LV had been vaporised at Godric's
Hollow.

2) Dumbledore's alarm system, ( his golden twelve handed watch has
been suggested as the alarm system recently, sorry I cannot remember
who posted), alerted him that an attack had occurred at the Potter
home. The fact that DD sends Hagrid alone has been mentioned in
recent posts to indicate that DD's warning system must be very
sophisticated in that he must be aware that no DE's remain to
endanger solo Hagrid.
Hagrid arrives at Godric's Hollow to find James and Lily Potter dead
and infant Harry alive. But, Harry, as the only living being in the
house has been possessed by the 'spirit' of LV in an attempt to
survive the reflected AK curse that has disembodied LV. Whether
Hagrid is aware at this stage of Harry being Harry!Mort I, of course,
have no canon for support. Maybe Harry is yelling with pain in a
weird voice, we know possession is painful from OoP, MoM fight. LV
stays in Harry rather than cross to Hagrid because of prejudice
against giants or maybe Hagrid, as half giant, has extra protection
as witnessed (against spells) in OoP.

3) Hagrid gets Harry to DD at Hogwarts and DD immediately knows that
Harry is Harry!Mort.
What to do about it? Seal Harry!Mort in a large container, like
animagus bug Rita Skeeter, until death through suffocation? That's
despicable thought Daffy Duck - sorry DumbleDore. A sealed container
is the only way to prevent an escape by LV. DD realises that to save
Harry he must allow LV to escape, but he can allow the escape under
his terms.

4) Leaving Harry!Mort in a secure spell bubble (as in OoP, MoM), DD
sends Hagrid to get an Eagle Owl and asks Snape to prepare a Draught
of Living Death and also a bezoar.
An eagle owl, in GoF The Madness of Mr Crouch, is used by LV/PP to
tell Crouch!Moody that Crouch senior has escaped and is heading for
Hogwarts. DD has spies that seem pretty reliable at telling him where
LV is in the various books. I am sticking my neck out here, but my
guess here is that DD has the eagle owl prepared to be able to relay
messages or images back to DD from wherever LV and the owl are. Maybe
one of DD's office paintings of previous headmasters is duplicated
in miniature and hidden (or tattooed) on the owl.

5) DD returns alone to Harry!Mort with the Eagle Owl (now also a
spy), the Draught of Living Death, and the bezoar. DD first modifies
the memories of Harry and LV. Harry can now recall nothing after the
green flash, and LV is left thinking he could not touch Harry. DD
removes the spell bubble and feeds Harry the Draught of Living Death
while saying how sorry he is to have to kill one so young but it is
for the greater good of the WW. As the poison takes effect, LV leaves
Harry's body, takes possession of the eagle owl, and escapes. DD then
administers the antidote, the bezoar, and Harry is once again just
Harry, except for some odd memory of the name Tom Riddle,
parceltongue, and maybe some other talents yet to be revealed.

6) The eagle owl is a good choice by DD as it will be unlikely to be
attacked by another creature and so should provide a good solution to
LV and yet last as DD's spy. Is this part of the answer to
Dumbledore's seeming omniscience?

7) Hagrid being involved in these events, I believe is the source of
the news that LV has vanished, he did tell McGonagall early enough
for her to be on Privet Drive before Vernon left for work, and he
cannot keep a secret. I also wonder if Hagrid recovered LV's wand,
maybe Peter Pettigrew got it back when he was hiding in Hagrid's hut
in PoA.

8) The 'gleam of something like triumph in Dumbledore's eyes' in GoF
The Parting of the Ways may be associated with DD realising that LV
has used Harry's blood as 'blood of the enemy...forcibly taken' when
in fact LV had already shared Harry's blood in the past, but because
of the memory modification, LV is ignorant of the shared blood
history.

9) Would this amount of work by DD account for the 'missing 24
hours' ?

I acknowledge other listees who have posted on similar topics. I
joined after OoP so if any of this has been discussed in detail
before please refer me to the relevant posts. I have numbered
paragraphs in this long post for ease of replies. I hope this post
makes sense because it is now 2am, by the time I've caught up with
posts it's always late, and I do not want to post and repeat someone
elses thoughts.
