When I reread OoP, reading that line made me wonder
if, on a
subconscious level, Lupin harbors any resentment

Sirius' death.

Thanks, Anna.

Sorry I have not been keeping up with postings. There
are just so many, and I am a little behind. SO, if I
restate anything, I appologise.

I don't think Lupin harbors any resentment. Actually,
I think he cared for Harry very much. He was close to
James and I think feels, as Sirius did too, that he
has a responsibility towards Harry.

I think his statement of :

"Harry, there is nothing so important as you learning
Occulemency!"
said Lupin sternly. Do you understand me? Nothing!"

is out of desperation. He knows Harry can sometimes
ignore the warnings of adults and he knows how grave
the situation really is and is desperate to get HP to
learn occumlemency for his own saftey.

I think we can confirm that Lupin doesn't resent HP
when after Sirius falls through the curtain:

"...Lupin grabbed Harry around the chest, holding him
back."
"There's nothing you can do, Harry-"
...........
Harry struggled vicously, but Lupin would not let
go...
"There's nothing you can do, Harry...nothing... He's
gone."

This is the point where I started crying.
Lupin has carried a lot of grief in his life and is
sort of used to handling it on his own. Hence, why he
is so weary looking and early aged. He knows that
Harry is in shock and what he is feeling/will feel
about the loss of Sirius. I also think Lupin, as well
as some of the others, feels a considerable amount of
guilt for "letting" this happen. They realize their
own mistakes for not letting HP know more. All he can
do is hold Harry at that moment.

I think Lupin will play a much bigger role in the
books to come. He is actually my favorite character,
and I have actually been thinking of posting a post
about Lupin fans. There are HP, Sirius, Snape and DD
fans, but I have yet to run across a Lupin fan.

I think Lupin is the most genuine character out of all
of them. I could go on about him right now, but I am
going a little off your topic.

Sirius was the closest thing HP had to a father.
Lupin knows this. I doubt at all that he bares any
resentment to HP for not learning occumelency,
especially since he knows HP did not like Snape. In
fact, I think Lupin will bear a lot of the grief from
the death of Sirius.

Just a thought.
