Susan:
I'm woefully behind in posts, so it may be that nobody gives a diddly-
darn about this topic right now, but I did try to read down the
thread and didn't see the following issue addressed. So here I go.

I think assuming that Harry would recoil would make sense if the wand
were *identical* to Tom's/Voldy's, but it is NOT. Presumably, it's
not just the phoenix core which gives the wand its properties
& "identity"--heck, if there are only 3 magical substances used as
cores, then the core itself can't be the only key to the wand. I
think that the WOOD'S properties are equally or even more important
in determining that. There is certainly more variation in types of
wood used, plus length of wood, etc. Surely it's the combination of
core & wood which make the wand unique?

The fact that Fawkes provided the feather for both Tom's/Voldy's &
Harry's *does* make them "brother" wands, but perhaps the other
aspects of the wands are well suited to the **differences** between
Tom/Voldy and Harry.

Susan:
I think this is possible, Kneasy. Or, as someone else postulated,
perhaps Ollivander has gifts such that he *might* be acting sort of
as The Sorting Hat of the Wand World. Or, as another theorized,
perhaps after Ollivander sizes up his client to a certain degree--
skills, talents, family background/*history*,... then the wands which
would be potentially suitable are allowed to "choose" the wizard from
there. Or, of course, if we believe in fate, the prophecy, that kind
of thing, then that wand "knew" it was destined for Harry all along.
I think *you're* arguing that DD set it up; others might argue
that "destiny" set it up?

Many possibilities exist here, I would think.

Siriusly Snapey Susan...who is trying desperately to catch up on 200
posts [busy campaigning for school board, don't you know] and hopes
she hasn't stepped on toes w/ this one.
