I do think that Draco did seem to be fairly advanced
in SS when he put the leg-locker curse on Neville. I
wouldn't be surprised if Lucius hadn't been giving
Draco advanced lessons in some areas. Maybe Snape is
aware of that and just suggest a spell Draco had
already mastered.

Sirius said in GoF that Snape came to Hogwarts knowing
alot of curses that most seventh years students don't.
Perhaps Draco is another student who had some tricks
up his sleeve before he started at school.
