Why does Ron have a crush on Hermione?

The Sergeant Majorette says

In some cases, we know from interviews given by JKR, the screenwriter 
and some of the actors that she has given them guidance about things 
that are going to happen in future books (that might not get filmed).

The "non-hug" is one of those instances. JKR has made it pretty clear 
that Hermione and Ron are destined to be "high-school sweethearts". 
Of course, given her penchant for the plot twist and her relationship 
with the individual on whom Ron is based (they're still pals and act 
goofy around each other), I'd say Ron and Hermione will no longer be 
an "item" by the end of the series.
