Why are prophecies stored in glass orbs??

Hmmm, I'd say that glass orbs make some sense: they symbolize not only the
"crystal orb" where prophecies (at least for Sybil anyway) originate, but at
the same time the transparency and fragility point to just how fluid and
fragile the very concept of prophecy, especially when it pertains to a
particular individual or individuals, actually is. As for the ones which
were lost, I think we need to pay as much attention as possible to what
fragments we did hear, JKR has always got ways of "not delivering"
information ... I can¹t help thinking the smashed and "lost" prophecies were
meant for us "not to hear" ...
