Geoff:
There's been a lot of theorising and chewing the cud over Tolkien's 
books since they came out and it still engenders fun and frolic. The 
various commentaries and critiques are of interest, especially if you 
don't agree with then and then you get a satisfaction over finding 
that Tom Shippey agrees with a theory or critical point you first 
made 30 years ago.

And even then, when the dust from Book 7 has settled, there will 
still be room for our imaginations to run on with ideas about what 
happened next with people who survive Pottergeddon, or whatever Book 
7 will lead to.....
