That's how it should be, don't you think?
The site would be a hellishly boring place if all marched to the samed
drummer.
IMO what we get out of a book depends to a great extent on what we
bring to it. The finer details of character, fleshing out the back-plot
and history depends on your imagination, experiences, attitudes and
tastes. That is the glory of books, what we see is influenced by what
we are.
So far as I know, no-one on site would dream of raising a banner to
an orthodoxy that all should adhere to; personally, I relish the
diversity around this place - it gives me plenty of scope for provocation.
But I'm a bit sad about one thing.
I started reading the books before the films were released, and I had
very definite images of the characters. But now I can't recall what *my*
Hagrid was like - forever more Robby Coltrane *is* Rubeus Hagrid.
Same for Fudge - Robert Hardy he ain't; nor is Vernon Dursley Richard
Whatisname. They may be good actors interpreting the characters, but
they're not my characters.
Someone else's images have replaced my own, my friends have been
usurped. It's almost like being robbed.
