Let us for the moment set aside the notion of professional 
responsibility. IMCO, we are seemingly discussing two similar but 
distinct things when we mention "professionalism."

1- What I am referring to is professionalism towards another 
teacher. Perhaps it's better said as "professional courtesy."

2- Whatever transgressions Lupin has committed, these were lapses on 
his part for which he fully accepted not only responsibility, but 
also the consequences. His lapses were not, and this is pellucidly 
clear (to me anyway), not willful actions.

It will prove interesting if, for whatever reason, Severus is shown 
to be some variant of, say, vampire (a hypothesis to which I adhere) 
and Lupin knew about it and said nothing. Especially since it was 
Severus who "accidentally" let it slip that Lupin was a werewolf.
