We've seen that the teachers, *especially* the DADA professor,
are considered to have a professional responsibility to secure
the school against Dark Magic. Lupin has a responsibility to his
colleagues to protect them. Certainly this applies to keeping
track of the full moon and taking his potion on time.
As for Sirius, either Lupin believed all along that Sirius was not
dangerous, in which case he should have told Dumbledore so
that the Dementor guard around the school could be removed, or
he believed that Sirius was dangerous and had a responsibility
to tell Dumbledore everything he knew.
The same applies to the Marauder's Map. If it was a security risk
then Dumbledore should have been told about it. If it wasn't, it
should have been returned to Harry.
