It is interesting to note that it was (primarily?) as a result 
of "Snape's werewolf essay" that Hermione discovered Lupin was a 
werewolf. I would tend to doubt that Snape assigned it without the 
hope (expectation?) that Hermione would have figured out the truth 
about Lupin. Also, Hermione never did tell anyone until the end of 
PoA what she haddiscovered and how.

It is also, therefore, very interesting to note that Lupin then 
assigned an essay on vampires. I'm curious as to what insights 
Hermione reached therefrom and which teachers (if any) are affected 
by the revelations of these insights.
