Let's start off by saying that I am an Ollivander fan. In the future,
beyond the end of the book, I see Harry and Ollivander in a mutually
respectful lifelong friendship. So, anyone who proposes any
ESE!Ollivander theories will be frowned upon. That's a general
statement, not implying that you are specifically calling Ollivander
evil.

Ollivander may, at some point in his life, have slain his own dragons
but overal, we see that many dragon based products are readily
available; dragon skins for boots, jackets, gloves, the implied 12
uses of dragons blood, dragon heart, dragon liver, dragon meat,
etc.... In a sense, dragons in the wizard world aren't far from cows
in the muggle world. But we must remember, dragons are close to the
size of a 5 or 6 story building. One dragon equals LOTS AND LOTS of
dragon based products.

To extent this further, I suspect much like the real world, the
dragon's habitat has been so severly reduced that if left unchecked
the dragon population would overwhelm the available habitat.
Consequently, wizards are engaged in a systematic method of dragon
population control. Pretty much all animals who remain in the wild in
the modern world have their population controlled by man through the
regulation of hunting.

In the real world, when deer (bear, moose, wolves, etc...) start
running through largely populated areas, the DNR (Dept of Natural
Resource) alters the deer (or whatever) hunting regulations to allow
more deer to be killed during the next hunting season.

So to, dragon population is controlled by eliminating excess
populations, and killing rogue and nusance dragons. That seems to
supply the wizard world with all the dragon based product it needs.

Hummm... I wonder what barbecued dragon steak taste like? Somehow
'taste like chicken' doesn't quite seem to fit.

It is worth noting though that Dragons are the only creature that are
killed in order to make wands. Although, I don't think they are every
killed specifically for the purpose of making wands. That would be too
wasteful.

As to your friend's theory that THIS Ollivander is the Original
Ollivander, let's remember the Ollivanders was founded in 382 BC. Let
me stongly emphasize the 'B.C. - Before Christ'. That would make Mr.
Ollivander about 2,400 (Twenty four HUNDRED) years old. I don't think
so. That's about 12 times the lifespan of the longest lived wizards.

Just a few thoughts.
