Ellen says:
I recently reread SS and am currently rereading OotP (this group has
inspired me to pull them out again!). I have been wondering, if
Hermione was muggle born and raised, then why does she flinch at
Voldemort's name like those raised in the WW?
I (Tiffany) says:
I would have to agree with what everyone else is saying about it
being a learned behavior. Unless it was a mistake on JK's part. This
is probably just from the movie and I don't have the book to tell me
so bear with me. In SS/PS when the trio came back from there detention
in the forbidden forest. Hermione says Voldemort's name clearly without
fault. Maybe I am wrong, if so please correct me.
Ellen says:
I wouldn't put it past her to have taught herself. She's a fast
learner, and I can see her burying her nose in the books the instant
she brought them home. I can see her experimenting with her wand and
trying out the magic in "Standard Book of Spells, Grade One". That's
very believable to me.
I (Tiffany) Says:
My only problem with that concept of trying them out herself wouldn't
there be a problem with MoM. I means students aren't suppose to do
magic outside of school, are they? Or did I miss something? I know
accidental magic isn't a big deal but that would be a real deal though.
Can someone clarify?
Tiffany
