That's what I always assumed. I figured the spell that watched over them was lifted
when they entered the train and re activated when they left Hogwarts again, until
their seventeen.
And I assume it's a spell due to the large number of students. They probably have a
little alarm system that alerts when a student uses magick when they're not supposed
to so that no one is 'watching' them beyond the spell.
