I know the answer, Pippin, really, I do. :o)  Lupin, of course. :o)

But he just pretended to do that to sent Sirius far far away  for 
some unknown mission with Dumbledore's knowledge, of course.

He'll be back and will tell us that Lupin is  really just a nice 
werewolf and at the end Snape will improve Wolsbane so much that it 
will help to cure all werewolves. :o)

How is that for a theory? :)
