Yep, you can't make food (lasting food that is). I always thought that and
JKR seems to have confirmed that. If you could why not clothes, that's no
more complex than food, poor old Lupin in his raggaty robes.
Molly peels potatoes with the help of magic if you could make food you
would swish your wand and the meal would be there. The food that appears at
Hogwarts is transferred from one place to another that's all.
Magic fades over time as inticated many times in the books.
