Pippin:
Many children have to lose their fathers in war--and who can give
them back? Not JKR. I think it would be awful if, having told us for
years that a major character was going to die in OOP, she said,
"Oops! Not properly dead, he's just restin''" <g>

When HBP begins, Sirius will have been gone only a month or
so, while the readers will have had two or three years, at least, to
adjust. It would seem strange if Harry was still in denial, while
we have all gotten over the shock. By making it possible for us to
deny his death if we wish, JKR is making sure at least some of
us will be in the same place emotionally as Harry, still struggling
to adjust to a world where Sirius is gone forever. Harry hasn't
had to do that before. He didn't know when his parents died that
they would never return, and Cedric's loss, though painful, didn't
leave an empty space in Harry's life.
