It works very well either way and strong arguments have been made 
for both views. JKR tells us that many have figured it out, but of 
course she doesn't tell us who has the right answer.  I think it's 
safe to say the 3 individuals are Crouch JR, Snape and Karkaroff.  
(Although someone will disagree.) 

Is Snape set up for punishment or death?"  And how will he survive?
